A message from Scott Rackham, Executive Director
of MPTV Friends and Ellis Bromberg, General Manager of Milwaukee Public
Television
Ask three people to explain the Northern Lights and you are
likely to get three different answers.
One will favor scientific analysis, another a more spiritual interpretation
and the third a view somewhere in between.
For those of us who have experienced this dance of lights, the event is
unforgettable.
There is a scientific explanation behind the display, and you
can find it as part of the upcoming season of NOVA scienceNOW. Hosted by
popular astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, the series explores cutting-edge
developments in astronomy, computer science, engineering and medicine. With only six episodes to the season, you
won’t want to miss a moment of NOVA
scienceNOW -- on a new night this summer, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on MPTV-10 and MPTV-HD-36.1.
From the young to the young at heart, MPTV shares science
and nature programs year-round that celebrate the beauty, diversity and mystery
of our natural world. NATURE has been the benchmark of natural
history programs on television for more than 25 years, capturing Earth’s
splendors from Africa to Antarctica. NOVA
is the most watched science television series in the world, now seen in more
than 100 countries. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SPECIALS, known worldwide for their remarkable
visuals and compelling stories, have been a part of the public television
family since 1975.
Since we’re talking science, we’re delighted to report that
two new programs are in the works for younger viewers this fall. SID THE
SCIENCE KID, a terrific animated series created by the Jim Henson Company
to teach science to preschoolers, will premiere on Labor Day. And the new MPTV co-production with Milwaukee’s Discovery
World, THE SECRET LABS, an innovative
science series for middle school-age youngsters, will premiere this fall.
So leap into space, traverse the tips of Everest, travel the
Amazon and return safely to your favorite chair – you and your family can
experience it all on MPTV! Sincerely,
Scott and Ellis
